The discussions were open, stimulating, informative and joyful. I met many people who had enthusiasm and determination and individuals who had big visions. I tried to make the meeting with them a pleasant chat that I documented, rather than a formal interview. The result was a joint conversation and understanding of differences of opinion.
Through the interviews and those who were interviewed, I also tried to document my own desires, visions and wishes. I thoroughly enjoyed them and it was fun doing it. Perhaps it was because of this that an interviewee (an artist-actress) jokingly told me: I always follow your work doing interviews in newspapers and magazines. I think you are using us as a way to express yourself! Another person, a close friend of mine, said to me critically: Your interviews are filled with too much of your own perceptions and views. Stop it and try to let them talk, and you should write or document their ideas in their own words. The comments have changed and appear to be very accurate and processed.

Ghirmay Yohannes är författare, konstnär och filmskapare från Eritrea. Under åren 2016-2018 var han Göteborgs stads fristadskonstnär. På Korpen har han tidigare utgivit bl a De försvunna drömmarna (på tigrinja). Han medverkar med texten ”Brevet till presidenten”, på tigrinja och svenska, i fristadsantologin Skapande liv, redigerad av Johanna Lindström.
